Selling Your Writing With White Space

The space you don’t fill on your screen/page when writing is as important as the words you generate. Readers need air around words to take in that copy.

  • Encountering line after line of written information with no breaks exhaust readers, propelling them to another email/article/web site.
  • White/empty space around words and sentences gives the mind time to process.

Graphic artists know this. They utilize air/empty space to make an ad effective. Take advantage of the approach. Reduce your copy and format to use white space to your advantage.

Remember, no more than:

  • 15 to 20 words in a sentence.
  • 3 to 4 lines in a paragraph of electronic copy.
  • 7 to 9 lines for hard copy paragraphs.
